Tim Ho Wan @ i12 Katong

We didn't go for our usual Sunday walks today, so we decided to go to a place nearby for lunch. We being the younger sis and me. As we have kind of run out of cafes nearby to go to, we decided to go to Tim Ho Wan at i12 Katong. It's been a while since either of us have been there.

We ordered the signature Baked BBQ Pork Buns ($8.50 for 3), Hong Kong Style Milk Tea (Cold) ($4 each), Wok-fried Radish Cake with Shrimp ($11.50), Pork & Shrimp Dumplings in Hot & Spicy Scallion Noodles ($10.30), and Deep Fried Taro Cake with Crispy Garlic ($7.80) from the Prosperity Feast Promotion.

The signature pork buns were spot on in taste, consistent with previous visits. The skin was crispy and fluffy and the pork inside had a nice bbq tang. The cold milk tea came without ice which is surprising. I like it as it means the tea is not diluted by the melting ice.

The Wok-fried Radish Cake with Shrimp was highly recommended by the sis. It was good. It's basically deep-fried carrot cake (our local carrot cake which is actually radish cake) with beansprouts and scallion drenched in a spicy sauce. Yes, this atas carrot cake is better than the real McCoy.

We usually get the Pork & Shrimp Dumplings in Hot & Spicy Scallion (红油抄手) but today we got it with the noodles as we were not going to get another rice or noodles dish. It was good, as expected. There were many little dried shrimp and the noodles were cooked just nice. The dumplings were tasty.

The deep-fried taro cake was not on their regular menu. Since it came with crispy garlic, it caught our attention and we got it to try. It was quite good, kind of like deep-fried yam cake with fried garlic. I think they should put this on their regular menu.

Overall, I give this 4 Aunty Karens. Food and service are up to their regular standard at other branches from previous visits. I am glad that they are maintaining standards. I would return if not to this branch, to other branches.

4 out of 5 stars on the Aunty Karen scale
