Kim Dae Mun Korean Food

We went for a walk at the Botanic Gardens today. The sis and I. It wasn't as crowded as I expected for a weekend. I guess people are still staying away due to the pandemic. We did encounter two groups of tween dancers who seemed to be practising for some dance competition. One of the groups was dressed like Ronald McDonald, just saying 😅. For lunch, we walk down Tanglin towards Orchard Road and ended up at Kim Dae Mun Korean Food Court, a foodcourt at Concorde Shopping Mall.

I remember when it was just a stall at the old Concorde Hotel Foodcourt, with the ajumma at the cashier taking orders and barking the orders into a microphone. It is now a legit restaurant of its own, albeit a very basic restaurant, more like a foodcourt. So I decided to give it a try to see if the food is still the same.

We ordered spicy pork ($9.50), kimchi soup ($9.00), and fried dumplings ($4.50) and chose the anchovies and kimchi for our banchan. The food came fast even though the place was filling up with the lunch crowd.

The verdict? This gets 3.5 Aunty Karens.

It is still tasty and authentic simple Korean fare, but with the increase in prices, I'm afraid it doesn't feel so value-for-money anymore. With so many places selling Korean food sprouting up all over the island with better atmosphere and unlimited banchan, ajumma needs to up her game. I know there is still a loyal following, as evident in the GM reviews, but I would probably try other eateries or other cuisines if I were in the area.
