Katong Mei Wei Boneless Chicken Rice

Went to Katong Mei Wei Boneless Chicken Rice at Katong Shopping Centre for lunch with the niece. I double-checked to make sure that they are open so I don't end up eating from another stall like the last time, although that was a good review.

We got there early so it was not filled with the lunchtime crowd yet. There is an ordering kiosk at the side of the stall manned by an aunty that is even more crusty than Aunty Karen. There is no need to be belligerent just because you are popular. Well, minus points for poor service.

We got 2 regular roasted chicken rice ($6.70) each. They came with a plate of rice and chicken each, as well as a plate of archar (well not really) and a bowl of soup to share. For condiments, there's the typical chilli sauce. You can also get the dark soya sauce and minced ginger if you like (free).

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I give this 3 Aunty Karens. The chicken was de-boned and kind of dry. It was saved by the soya-sesame concoction it was drenched in and the fried garlic covering it. The archar wasn't really the typical Nyonya archar, but huge chunks of pineapple and cucumber that has been pickled. Wasn't really tasty and didn't add to the dish. The bowl of soup had huge pieces of cabbage, thin slices of carrots, and random pieces of chicken bones, and was too peppery. The saving grace is the condiments. Very few places have the classic dark soya sauce and minced ginger combo. If you have not tried this with your chilli sauce with your chicken rice, you are missing out. Finally, the belligerent cashier aunty ensures that I will not return to this place. There are other chicken rice stalls around, much cheaper, might I add.

3 out of 5 on the Aunty Karen scale
