Dumpling Darlings @ Circular Road

I went to Funan Centre today to check out yoga mats. My current one is starting to disintegrate and flaking. There's this shop there that carries the same brand (Jade Yoga) as my current mat. They don't have many selections on display and the lady there recommeded another brand which is comparable (Rumi). So I decided to go home and do more research online. I will write another post on my evaluation of the different mats and which mat I eventually bought.

Shopping over, time to find a place for lunch. Since I wasn't keen on what they have to offer at Funan, I decided to cross the Elgin Bridge as they seem to have more food options on the other side and landed on Dumpling Darlings, a restaurant that specialises in dumplings.

They have a set lunch deal which included a noodle, dumplings, and an iced drink for $17. I got the Sichuan Pork Noodles (Spicy Minced Meat, Sichuan Tare, Bacon Sofrito, Fried Shallot, Spring Onion, Hanjuku Egg), Fried Pierogi (Smoked Bacon, Truffle Potato, Caramelised Onion, Cheddar, Sriracha Crema), and Passion Fruit Ginger Soda.

For some reason, I was expecting a soup noodle, so I was taken aback when they served me the bowl of noodles and it was just a lot of dry toppings. It took me a while to get over my shock. The noodles sitting at the bottom of the bowl was cooked al-dente and tossed in the Sichuan Tare which is not as spicy as I had anticipated. I like the toppings, especially the nori. It added a different layer of umami to the noodles. Yummy.

The dumplings were not as crispy as I had expected. The Sriracha creama was not spicy and there was too little of it. The fillings, however, were really tasty. The hint of the truffle was just enough. I don't usually like it when dishes with truffle are too heavy handed with it.

The Passion Fruit Ginger Soda came quite late, when I was half-way through my eating, and I forgot to take a picture of it. I saw the staff crush the ginger in the glass as she was making the drink, so it wasn't a syrup or powder or such.

Overall, I give this 4 Aunty Karens. Even though the restaurant is small, crowded, and dimly lit, I want to return to try out the different dumpling and noodle options.
