⇧ I love the juxtaposition and different layers of housing styles.
We got there really early and were the first patrons. They gave us a booth, which was nice and cozy, but really bad for taking photos of the food, as you can see from the photos below.
I got the Tomato Sukiyaki Hamburg Claypot Set ($23.90), the sis got the Keisuke Prime Beef Hamburg Steak Set with Oroshi Ponzu sauce ($22.90), and the niece got the Teriyaki Chicken Set ($21.90).
⇧ Tomato Sukiyaki Hamburg Claypot Set
The set I got was really tasty. The sukiyaki broth was a nice and bright. The notes of acidity from the tomato came through. The hamburg patty soaked up the flavours from the broth very well. I chose to mix the onsen egg into the steamed rice. I think I should have mixed it into the sukiyaki broth, kind of like egg-drop soup? Overall, it wasn't what I had expected, but I enjoyed it.
⇧ Keisuke Prime Beef Hamburg Steak Set
The sis had mixed review for the ponzu sauce. I was surprised that she has not only not tried it, but has never heard about it. She wasn't really impressed. It was nice and citrusy, but maybe more suitable for a salad than the hamburg steak.
⇧ Teriyaki Chicken Set
⇧ Coffee jelly with milk
The greatest hit was the coffee jelly. It was so good we went back for seconds and thirds, skipping the fruits completely
The salad bar was similar to the one at Charcoal-grill & Salad Bar Keisuke, with the eggs replacing the Mentaiko Spaghetti. There is a good selection of vegetables from a western salad bar as well as Japanese staples. The eggs were a novelty. The tamagoyaki were slightly dry and could have been fluffier.
The portions of the main were hugh. The tempura prawn was a nice addition to the hamburg steak. The sauces were however, a bit disappointing as they did not really add to the taste of the hamburg steaks. The claypot was a great choice as the sukiyaki broth was more flavourful.
Overall, I give this 4 Aunty Karens.
