Tendon Tenya @ Parkway Parade

It's work-from-home day for the younger sis today, so we were able to try out the food in the hood for lunch. We went to Tendon Tenya which was newly opened in the basement of Parkway Parade.

We ordered the Premium Tendon ($12.90) and the Noodle Vegetable Tempura with Cold Soba ($14.30). We added a Tempura Egg ($1.80) and free-flow Japanese Tea ($2 each).

This is another one of those order-at-the-kiosk-and-wait-for-your-order-to-be-called-on-the-monitor kind of place. The confusing thing here is you get to choose your seats when placing your order. The only thing was when we went to our table, some other aunty had placed their umbrella on the table to chop the table. Awkward.

The food was alright. The tempura was fried well and the batter was light. They were generous with the tempura vegetables. They have tendon sauce at the table for diners who need extra sauce.

So, this is supposed to be a famous tendon restaurant in Japan, but I can't say this is the best tendon I have eaten. The prawn tempura wasn't as big and meaty as what I am used to. They also didn't have the salt, usually some kind of matcha salt, that goes with the tempura. It does feel like this is fast food tempura rather than a proper restaurant.

Overall, I give this 3 Aunty Karens. I don't think I will return. I would rather go further, pay slightly more for a more quality bowl of tendon.

3 out of 5 stars on the Aunty Karen scale
